Position Summary:
The Technical Manager I works as the member of a Headquarters (HQ) based team and provides day-to-day support through serving to generate new business in the field of Countering Violent Extremism (CVE), with a focus on Europe, the United States, the Middle East, North Africa, and sub-Saharan Africa. The Technical Manager I works closely with the Sr. Conflict Advisor, the Training with Industry Fellow, and the Director for New Business, to ensure the successful pursuit of opportunities in the field of CVE. The Technical Manager I serves as the primary administrative and research support to Creative’s CVE initiatives. He/She identifies, owns, and solves potential problems through sound judgment and creativity. He/She provides operational, research, and logistical support to project staff and consultants, and contributes to the drafting of relevant documents and reports. The Technical Manager I works closely with the practice areas within Communities in Transition Division. He/She will contribute as needed to technical aspects of program design and implementation. He/She is also engaged in other Creative Associates International business development in the field of peacebuilding as opportunities arise.
Reporting & Supervision:
This position reports directly to the Senior Conflict Advisor and collaborates regularly all practice areas in the Communities in Transition Division and occasionally with the Headquarters Support Departments.
Primary Responsibilities:
Prepares responses to funding opportunities from donors and the private sector;
Attends external events to capture lessons learned and disseminate information among colleagues;
Provides administrative and technical support to partner organizations;
Develops marketing activities;
Generates unsolicited proposals;
Provides daily technical, financial and administrative support;
Supports key personnel in the field on relevant projects;
Supports project Consultants by developing and monitoring agreements, coordinating travel and logistics, and facilitating payment requests;
Conducts research in support of CVE activities;
Acquires intimate familiarity with contract requirements, deliverables and budgets;
Develops and maintains strong working relationships with partner and/or donor organizations related to the program; and
Maintains working knowledge of company administrative, financial systems, and operating procedures; and
Seeks to learn quickly and identify additional responsibilities normally assigned to the Program Associate II position.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in an area relevant to this employment opportunity such as Security Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, International Studies, etc.;
5 years of prior work experience;
Previous proposal development experience, preferably for U.S. government opportunities;
Prior experience in international development, ideally in a donor-funded project setting;
Demonstrated ability to develop and monitor program and proposal budgets;
Strong writing and editing skills;
Excellent communication and analytical skills.
Solid organizational and administrative skills;
Ability to work well in a team environment and to multi-task under tight deadlines;
Strong independent drive;
Creative problem solver;
Ability to work on multiple projects;
Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft programs (excel, power point, MS project, etc.).
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
Previous project backstopping experience, preferably for a USAID funded project;
Master’s Degree in an area relevant to Countering Violent Extremism;
Previous experience working in a developing country or on a related project,
Knowledge and experience working with US State Department / USAID structure and assistance mechanisms; and
French and/or Arabic language fluency.
