Part Time Traffic Checker - SEPTA - Philadelphia, PA

Note: Posting deadline chnaged to 1/28/16.

The Southeastern PA Transportation Authority (SEPTA), the sixth largest transportation provider in the nation, is seeking energetic and detail-oriented professionals to join our team. We are currently accepting online applications for part-time Traffic Checkers to fill FUTURE VACANCIES at SEPTA.

The part-time Traffic Checker performs a multitude of important and detail-oriented tasks in SEPTA’s Traffic Department, such as counting the number of passengers using the City Suburban and Railroad Division routes, checking the arrival and departure times of vehicles and occasionally performing surveys. This information is used to evaluate ridership and adjust schedules.

The Checkers most often work outdoors in all types of weather, gathering information at key intersections and transfer points.

These are part-time positions that average from 15 to 25 hours of work per week. Individuals seeking employment as part-time Traffic Checkers will be asked to work morning, mid-day, overnight, or weekend shifts, wherever our vehicles operate. You cannot pick your preferred work location or times, which will be assigned on a day-to day basis, according to business needs. We cannot guarantee that work will be available.

Rate of pay: $13.01 per hour.

Benefits: None; however, Traffic Checkers are issued free transportation passes, good on all SEPTA routes.

Reporting Location: anywhere SEPTA operates in the five-county area and parts of New Jersey and Delaware.

Shifts: Vary daily, mostly AM/PM rush hours and on weekends.

Full and part-time students and retirees are encouraged to apply.

While you will be able to use the SEPTA system to get to most of your work assignments, occasionally you may be asked to provide your own transportation.

Job requirements:

* High school diploma or equivalent

* Applicants with their own private transportation are

acceptable, but this is not a job requirement. We encourage our Checkers to get to and from their job assignments by riding the SEPTA system, where possible.

* You must have the ability to read maps, perform basic math calculations and comprehend SEPTA schedules.

* You must possess a reliable digital watch, easily set to show hours, minutes and seconds, to track vehicle arrivals and departures.

* You must be able to pass a basic math test, a reading test and a map reading test.

SEPTA is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Note: We expect a large number of applicants for these positions. Applicants will be notified by mail of their selection for further consideration. We regret that we will only be able to respond to those applicants whose qualifications meet our business requirements. No telephone inquiries please.
