This is complex clerical work of more than average difficulty servicing City water, sewer, solid waste and related accounts, involving extensive personal and telephone contacts with customers.
Employees in this class prepare and mail City bills; collect payments, make adjustments to accounts, research accounts, process liens on accounts, and related work, utilizing on-line computer terminals. An important aspect of the work in this class is extensive public contact, resolving the more difficult questions, problems and complaints in a courteous and tactful manner.
Employees exercise reasonable initiative and independent judgment in providing services and information, and in resolving customer problems and complaints according to established policies and procedures.
Work is reviewed by an assigned supervisor in conferences with the employee, through review of records and reports and by comments of customers.

This job classification is included within the bargaining unit represented by Teamsters Local Union 769 and therefore is subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769.
THE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Have successfully graduated from a standard high school, or possess an acceptable G.E.D. certificate.
2. Have three (3) years general clerical work experience involving extensive public contact, one (1) year of which involved servicing computerized billing accounts.
THE EXAMINATION AND HOW TO APPLY:
Depending on the number of applicants and the quality of their education and experience, the examination may consist of one or more of the following tests: Evaluation of Training and Experience, Oral Interview, Written Examination, or other assessment method. Applicants must attain a minimum score of 70 in each part of the examination in order to qualify. All successful applicants will be required to pass a medical examination, including drug screening, prior to appointment.
An eligible veteran who enters an open-competitive examination shall receive preference points added to the total passing score earned in the examination as provided for in the Florida Statutes. To obtain veteran’s preference, candidates MUST submit a copy of separation papers and the City of Fort Lauderdale’s veteran’s preference claim form (J204) at time of application.
