This is a Part-Time Position.
Location: Patrick Beaver Library
This position will assist with a variety of duties to include presenting children’s summer programs, assisting customers with all library duties including helping customers find materials, shelving materials, using library resources including children’s computers, answering reference questions and putting materials in order.
Major Duties:
- Provides service to both internal and external patrons.
- Inspects materials for damage.
- Sorts and shelves materials.
- Inspects shelves for overdue materials.
- Assists patrons with the location of library materials.
- Assists patrons in the use of computer catalog system.
- Identifies and reviews display status for new materials.
- Prepares forms; maintains shelves; maintains displays.
- Enforces library rules.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Qualifications:
- Must have experience with children and the public.
- Ability to relate well to the public with a strong desire to work with children and have an interest in children’s materials.
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
- The preferred applicant will have a Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts field and have previous library or school experience.
- Public library or experience in education desirable.
- Knowledge of library cataloging systems.
- Skill in operating a personal computer and utilizing a variety of
software.
- Skill in interpersonal relations.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
Supplemental Information:
- The work is typically performed while sitting, standing, walking,
bending, crouching, or stooping in a library setting. The employee
occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds, bend to the floor, and tolerate
standing up for long periods of time.
- Must be available to work a varied schedule between the duty hours
of Monday through Thursday 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, Friday and
Saturday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
