JOB SUMMARY:


The Director HR is responsible for the overall strategic direction, administration, and coordination of the global Human Resources function. The position directs the people resources and operations of the department by creating the vision and long / short-term plans. The Director is a subject matter expert that guides and manages the overall provision of HR services, policies, and programs for the entire organization. The Director is responsible for ensuring the resources and processes are available to support EH’s human resources requirements and strategy at its US headquarters and several country offices such as Bangladesh, Ethiopia, India, Philippines and Tanzania.

  • Provides strategic advice and guidance to the Senior Leadership Team on all matters relating to Human Resources.




  • Collaborates with external partners on international matters such as global mobility, immigration and taxation for international, expatriates, and TCN staff.




  • Works with union representatives regarding collective bargaining agreements.




  • Leads, manages, coordinates, and directs the departmental staff to ensure the provision of high-quality services.




  • Provides direction in the attracting, retaining, and motivating of the organization’s staff.




  • Develops corporate objectives, policies and procedures with judgment and interpretation, which will have a major impact on EH’s ability to achieve its organizational mandate.




  • Manages processes with careful attention to multi-site cross cultural awareness and sensitivities.




  • Manages the performance of direct reports, and provides regular feedback including the annual performance appraisal.




  • Develops and maintains an effective organizational structure and succession plan.




  • Develops a thorough understanding of EH’s business and the specific role of the department, as well as communicates this knowledge to the department through the management team and/or regular staff meetings.




  • Consults with the HR team across all locations to discuss and explore new initiatives, programs and improvements at the department, group or organizational level.




  • Works with the HR team across all locations to develop and implement long / short-term plans, practices and procedures that are aligned with EH’s objectives and industry best practices; as well as develop an effective communication approach to ensure that the HR programs are fully understood and appropriately valued by employees.




  • Works with the HR team across all locations and the Senior Leadership Team to forecast resource requirements that are in line with approved budgets and EH policies and guidelines.




  • Provides expert advice and consultation in order to coordinate, prioritize and support EH operations.




  • Identifies emerging issues, trends, and business opportunities.




  • Oversees and coordinates the development of performance metrics that are consistent across departments.




  • Develops and maintains high standards for the delivery of department services and products.




  • Communicates with the Senior Leadership Team and other business areas regarding issues of organizational importance in order to facilitate change and understand the work of all employees.




  • Acts as a Champion of corporate priorities and change within the department and throughout the organization.




  • Establishes external business partnerships, and represents EH externally with integrity, resolve and professionalism.



EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS:



  • A Master’s degree or higher in human resources or related field or equivalent.




  • Minimum ten to fifteen years’ experience of progressively more responsible human resource positions in a global capacity.




  • Non-profit experience is preferred.




  • Knowledge of working within a unionized environment preferred.




  • Experience supervising and managing a professional staff.




  • Experience working with a broad HR perspective, including exposure to multinational organizations.




  • Ability to manage client relationships and ability to balance employee needs and concerns with the organizations policy and management concerns.




  • Experience with cross-border project management and proven cross-cultural sensitivity.




  • Membership of relevant professional associations preferred.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to understand, express and apply complex research methodologies and processes, technical / statistical and administrative concepts, methods and procedures.




  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and the proven ability to handle busy workflow, multiple projects and prioritize assignments effectively.




  • Ability to work independently, with a remote team, think creatively, manage own time, and take initiative to drive projects to completion.




  • A proven leader, manager, and mentor, with excellent interpersonal skills, capable of directing and managing change and inspiring teamwork and high-performing teams




  • Knowledge of computerized human resources systems.




  • Excellent MS Office skills.




  • Ability to understand and articulate the strategic value of integrated HR processes particularly linkages between Talent Management, Organization Development, Total Rewards, and Multinational HR.




  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to synthesize information into clear, concise messages for detailed analytical reports and additional summaries.




  • Highly motivated individual with a strong customer service orientation and a demonstrated commitment to EH’s organizational mission and values.




  • Ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential information.




  • Fluency in written and spoken French or another language relevant to the countries in which EH works is a plus.




  • Ability to travel up to 20% of time internationally.​
