The Opportunity


ICCO USA, Inc. (“ICCO USA”), a Washington DC non-profit corporation with 501(c)3 tax exempt status application pending, was established in 2014 to promote and fund development projects around the world in cooperation with ICCO Cooperation. ICCO USA will build relationships with donors, prospective donors and key constituencies in the U.S. and connect them with development projects in cooperation with ICCO Cooperation.


ICCO USA seeks a motivated Executive Director who passionately supports the mission to end poverty and injustice in developing countries.

From a coherent theory of change ICCO Cooperation designs, manages and implements programs for inclusive development with focus on inclusive markets, food and nutrition security and responsible business. Gender, climate and the rights of marginalized groups are also areas of focus. ICCO Cooperation funds projects in a variety of innovative ways. ICCO Cooperation offers brokering services for public private partnerships and is experienced in working with a wide range of financial tools.


ICCO Cooperation consists of a Global Office in The Netherlands (Utrecht) and five Regional Offices in Africa, Asia and Latin America. ICCO Cooperation is active in a variety of countries through country representatives. ICCO Cooperation has approximately 300 employees and a turnover of 40 million Euros in 2016.


The Executive Director will have the opportunity to work closely with ICCO Cooperation and leverage ICCO Cooperation’s existing infrastructure and project development capacity in furtherance of the mission and goals of ICCO USA.


ICCO USA is looking for experienced candidates for the position of Executive Director. The Executive Director will report to the board of directors, actively lead ICCO USA in achieving its purposes and oversee and lead all aspects of the organization. To achieve the organization’s goals, the Executive Director will lead fundraising and donor development in the United States, strategically engage with ICCO Cooperation’s regional fundraising efforts, and maintain a close functional relationship with ICCO Cooperation. As the official ICCO USA spokesperson, the Executive Director will be responsible for communicating ICCO USA’s vision and maximizing its visibility among key audiences and stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities



  • Develop and manage relationships with U.S.-based stakeholders, including non-governmental organizations, aid agencies, donors and program managers.




  • Develop and execute philanthropic strategies for ICCO USA.




  • Oversee and/or actively participate in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for all U.S.-based foundation, corporate and individual prospects and donors.




  • Manage ICCO USA’s working relationships with ICCO Cooperation, including working with the Head of Corporate Strategy and External Relations of ICCO Cooperation.




  • Manage, motivate, and evaluate ICCO USA staff in accordance with staffing needs.




  • In collaboration with ICCO Cooperation’s Communications Department, develop a strategic communications plan for ICCO USA.




  • Serve as official spokesperson for ICCO USA, including representing the organization at internal and external forums, conferences and other key events.




  • Manage administration of ICCO USA, including developing and managing budget and overseeing and managing vendors such as accountant, payroll and insurance services providers.




  • Support ICCO USA board of directors, including board meeting planning and staffing, and board member engagement.



Required Skills and Experience


Significant experience with demonstrable success in the following areas:



  • Executive and/or leadership experience in international development non-profit organizations, non-governmental organizations, foundations, and/or government or multi-lateral aid agencies.




  • Skilled in proactively convening global, diverse teams in large, global organizations to develop donor-centered fundraising proposals.




  • Government aid agency and multi-lateral donor development project funding procurement experience (e.g. U.S. Agency for International Development and Inter-American Development Bank contracts and programs).



· A demonstrated leader in the development profession with a proven track record of closing significant gifts and evidence of exceptional cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation skills with six, seven and eight figure donors.



  • Experience in developing and implementing communications strategy across multiple platforms (digital, social media, press, events etc.).




  • The ability to manage staff and interact well with board members and global partner organizations.




  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree in relevant subject matter area and/or other advanced professional degree preferred.



Compensation and Benefits


The Executive Director compensation and benefits package will be competitive and commensurate with the successful candidate’s background and experience.


United States work authorization and ability to travel internationally required.
