Library Associate - Teen - County of Culpeper, VA - Culpeper, VA



Provides professional library services involving planning of teen services in the Youth Services section of the Library. This position is partially funded through grants and should those grants run out this position may be eliminated.
This position works nights and weekends, and may require 2 nights per week, and Friday evenings or Saturday all day or evening. This position will be allotted approximately 10 hours per month from the grant funding, and 4 hours each week, which are set tentatively at 5:00 – 9 each Wednesday evening, first Thursday of each month from 6 -8 for the teen advisory meetings, one Saturday per month from 1 – 5, 2nd Saturday every other month from 1 -5 for events, other hours as required, or as a substitute in the building. Hours are subject to change.

Essential Functions:


1. Plans, schedules and presents programs for teens as the primary responsibility
2. Plans, schedules and works with teen advisory committee, working closely with them to plan teen programs
3. May plan, schedule and present programs for toddler, pre-school and school-aged library patrons.
4. Schedules and promotes special exhibits and programs, such as the Summer Reading Program.
5. Provides resource material to teachers, schools, day cares, head start programs, etc. based upon age appropriateness, subject matter, interests, etc.
6. Compiles reader advisories, reading lists and bibliographies.
7. Assists the Youth Services Coordinator with selecting books and other library materials for the Library.
8. Conducts school tours and instructs visitors on using the library.
9. Prepares reports of program activities, statistics, etc.
10. Represents the Library in contacts with various community groups and organizations.

· Knowledge of arts and crafts and is able to produce illustrations and decorations in various media


Minimum Qualifications & Experience


Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in library science or a related field; supplemented by some experience working in a library and/or working with teens. Preference is given to those applicants with previous professional experience working with teenagers.
