Coordinator (part-time, 10 hours a week), Fire Protection and Safety Technology Program

MCCC/MTA Unit position, non-benefited.

This is a part-time position for the Fire Protection and Safety Technology Program in the Division of Health Professions & Human Services. This program is nationally recognized by FEMA/ Fire and Emergency Service in Higher Education (FESHE). The PT Program Coordinator is a one year position with the option to renew annually, responsible for maintaining the academic integrity of the program in conjunction with the College’s mission and institutional goals. The Coordinator will be responsible for the effective delivery and further development and enhancement of the program offerings, advisement of current and potential students, and outreach efforts in the community. In addition to these responsibilities there is the option for the Program Coordinator to teach 1-2 courses as an adjunct instructor for additional compensation.

The successful candidate must have the ability to relate to a student population that is highly diverse in academic preparation, cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds as well as physical and learning abilities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as the Coordinator of the Fire Protection and Safety Technology Program.

Provide academic advisement to current and potential students.

Work with College advisors and recruiters to inform and educate them on the Program’s requirements and benefits

Insure the program utilizes effective teaching strategies to support a student-centered learning environment, as well as maximize student retention and success.

Participate in the development of new courses as well as the evaluation, revision and enhancement of current programmatic offerings.

Work collaboratively with faculty and staff from other departments and disciplines.

Engage in outreach and collaborative efforts/activities with local fire departments as well as related state agencies and professional affiliations.

Maintain and expand relationships with technical advisory boards.

Participate in professional development opportunities to maintain expertise and infuse new pedagogies and methodologies into programmatic offerings.

Work with the assistant dean to determine the scheduling of course offerings.

The following qualifications must be addressed in the applicant’s cover letter and resume.


Masters in Fire Science or related field with 16 or more graduate credits in fire science or equivalent fire science industry experience.

Minimum of five years of recent professional work experience in the field of Fire Protection and Safety required.

Administrative experience on a professional fire department strongly preferred.

Experience teaching courses or training in Fire Science required, community college teaching preferred.

Working knowledge of chemical safety practices, including the storage, handling, use, and disposal of chemicals required.

Experience in developing and assessing student learning outcomes required.

Knowledge and experience with academic technology required; experience in online and/or hybrid course development and teaching strongly preferred.

Experience with the integration of technology, and multimedia formats in the development and delivery of instruction preferred

Effective oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills required.

Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and interpersonal connection with culturally diverse populations.
