Description:


The goal of the Contraceptive Technology Innovation (CTI) Initiative is to develop new and strategically important contraceptives, through a strong focus on global partnerships, to ensure broad access to quality, affordable and acceptable products for those most in need. Launched in 2013 and funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the CTI Initiative’s work bridges multiple stages of research and development.


Job Summary / Responsibilities:


The Associate Scientist, Contraceptive Technology Innovation Department, performs research and/or project development as part of project teams working to develop new contraceptive products. Works closely with scientific staff, providing technical input for the design, execution and interpretation of research methodologies. Prepares technical reports, summaries, protocols, other essential study documents and quantitative analyses.


Accountabilities:


  • Assists senior scientists in developing and implementing new studies.

  • Develops, designs and oversees major components of more complex studies or scientific projects, including:
    • Provides technical and scientific oversight for the preparation of proposals, protocols, research instruments and study procedure manuals.

    • Manages the design of analysis plans, interprets findings, and prepares scientific reports and papers.

    • Oversees research implementation activities in the field.

    • Conducts data analysis and prepares research manuscripts for publication.


  • Researches scientific issues as required for protocol development, study operations, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • Collaborates with team members and field investigators throughout all phases of the research studies.

  • Writes reports for studies for use by internal staff, advisory committees, and funding agencies.

  • Provides project management support, which may include preparing and monitoring budgets for assigned projects.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • Master’s Degree or its international equivalent in Health, Biostatistics, Behavioral Science, Life Science, Social Sciences or a related field.

  • A minimum of 5-8 years of experience in research methodologies, design and evaluation or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience sufficient to successfully perform the key responsibilities of the job.

  • Advanced knowledge of study design and data analysis methodology.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of therapeutic and scientific disciplines.

  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to analyze and interpret data, identify errors and prepare reports.

  • Experience with international health issues of developing countries.

  • Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff.

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.

  • Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO), government agency, or private organization.
