Rationale and context of the assignment:
The Digital Strategy Section (DSS) within the Division of Communication comprises Web, Social Media and Multimedia teams working together to create compelling public-facing content and to provide digital services within the organization. Through multiple platforms and in multiple languages, DSS draws attention to the many facets of UNICEF’s work, encouraging public support, participation and action, as well as ensuring greater transparency and accountability.
Web stories, blog posts, photo essays, Facebook posts, Twitter campaigns, and videos for distribution via UNICEF.org, UNICEF Connect, YouTube, news media and other outlets and platforms are all a part of our digital storytelling. By measuring and testing our efforts, we also use data to inform content and engagement choices. DSS seeks to hire a highly qualified editorial and production consultant for digital editorial production of Web content. Tasks include coordinating and performing all aspects of page production, editing and copy-editing texts, working in conjunction with content creators. This work cannot be done internally because of the lack of staff capacity to carry out this critical function.

Responsibilities:
- Develop engaging content, as assigned, for webpages designed by DSS
- Work with OpenText (RedDot) content management system for web updates, and WordPress for blog
- Carry out all aspects of page production, including styling type, embedding video, optimizing images
- Collect and prepare content from colleagues in the Programme Division to renew thematic modules
- Collect, edit, revise and prepare content from colleagues in Country and Regional Offices
- Curate video, photo and editorial content to be featured on the website
- Work with design team to ensure integration of content and design
- Work closely with project managers to ensure timely production of content areas
- Monitor and refresh content to assure that it is relevant and up to date
- Consult and update communication calendars to ensure integration of messaging on website and blog
- May be asked to work weekends and holidays, as required
- Perform other tasks as required
Qualifications or specialized knowledge/experience required:
- University degree in communication, public affairs, social sciences, international relations or other related discipline
- Five years’ work experience in a professional capacity in communication, external relations, public affairs or international development cooperation preferably within the UN or similar organization, government or NGO
- Demonstrated ability to collect information, undertake research and present findings
- Communicates effectively in writing and verbally to varied audiences, including formal public speaking
- Able to work effectively in a multicultural environment
- Sets high levels of quality and productivity for self
- Demonstrates an awareness of changes in organizational strategy that have an impact on own work area
- Makes people feel at ease and builds good working relationships with them
- Demonstrates good skills and relevant knowledge in own area
- Seeks and quickly absorbs new information and techniques
- Sets clearly defined objectives and plans activities
- Experience with content management systems, especially OpenText (RedDot), is highly desirable
- Web and graphic design experience is a plus
- Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines. Must be detail oriented and creative and possess strong communication skills
